Case study
D-Nothi: national e-filing system
Leading the architecture, database design and core framework of E-Nothi, the national e-filing system that became D-Nothi.
Context
Government decision-making runs on files (“nothi”): records that move between desks and offices for notes, review and approval. Paper files are slow to move, hard to track and difficult to search. A national e-filing system had to digitise this core administrative workflow for offices across government, in a way that could scale to a very large number of users and offices.
My Role
As Senior Software Engineer at a2i, I led the architecture, database design and core framework of E-Nothi, the system later known as D-Nothi.
What was built
E-Nothi provided the foundation for electronic file management in government offices. My responsibility was the technical core that everything else depended on:
- Architecture: the overall structure of the system, designed for government-wide use
- Database design: the data model behind files, notes and their movement between offices and officials
- Core framework: the shared foundation on which the application’s features were built
Getting these foundations right mattered because an e-filing system becomes part of an organisation’s daily operations, and its data model and framework must support growth over many years.
Outcome
D-Nothi has grown into a national platform with 150,000+ users across 19,000+ offices, making it one of the most widely used digital government systems in Bangladesh.
